Puduraya closure put off

KUALA L UMPUR – The closure of Puduraya bus station, schedule to start on March 19, has been postponed to another date, UDA Holdings Berhad said.
In a statement, it said the postponement was decided during a meeting with the Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Ministry, Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board, Kuala Lumpur City Hall, Road Transport Department and police.
The terminal was to be closed for four months from March 19 for upgrading.
Missing boy found safe and sound
KUALA LUMPUR – A six-year-old boy who was reported missing while playing at the playground of Sri Kota Flats, Cheras, on Saturday was reunited with his parents today.
Kuala Lumpur criminal investigation department chief Ku Chin Wah said the boy had gone to the playground but lost his way when he tried to return home.
"A man and woman tried to help but were unable to send the boy home as he could not remember the way back. They left him at a mosque where he was found by a friend of the boy's father," he said.
Probe on Bala still on
KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) investigation on private investigator P. Balasubramaniam is still ongoing, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohamed Nazri Aziz said.
MACC was prepared to meet Balasubramaniam, in connection with the murder of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu, to record his statement at any location deemed suitable by the private investigator, he said in a written reply to a question by Lim Lip Eng (DAP-Segambut) in Parliament today.
Lim had asked whether MACC was willing to go to England to record Balasubramiam's statement in front of his lawyer.
Accident causes Penang Bridge jam
BUTTERWORTH – Thousands of users of the Penang Bridge were caught in a massive traffice jam after a container-carrying trailer overturned while negotiating the Seberang Jaya exit here.
The congestion happened at a spot after the middle of the bridge when many people were returning home after work at about 6pm.
The accident resulted in only one lane being opened, causing the jam.
Remains of Iban soldiers to be returned home
KUALA LUMPUR – The remains of 20 Iban soldiers, who were killed in clashes with communist insurgents in the peninsula and Singapore, will be exhumed from their graves and transferred to their villages in Sarawak.
Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said the government had identified the graves of the soldiers and notified their next-of-kin.
"They wanted the remains of their loved ones to be buried in their villages."
Record haul
KUALA LUMPUR – The Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) confiscated over 35,000 pieces of python skin, 26,000 pieces of python gall bladder and three anteaters in two operations in Kedah and Perak last week.
Perhilitan law and enforcement division director Saharudin Anan said the Kulim raid saw the seizure of 26,196 pieces of the gall bladder, the biggest confiscation so far.
Saharudin said they would carry out DNA tests to determine whether the pythons were local or foreign species.
Spray on UV block
PENANG – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) has created a coating kit which allowed people to transform normal umbrellas and canopies into UV blocking products.
Its inventor, Dr Shahrom Mahmud, said: "The product, known as NanoZT-UV Coating Kit, offers an effective solution to the UV-related health issues and is capable of transforming common textiles into UV blocking textiles with near-zero UV transmission by spraying." — Bernama
