Umno Youth Denies Anwar's Statement Was Misquoted
Wednesday, 22 February 2012 00:10

PARIT - Umno Youth denied Anwar Ibrahim's allegations that Umno's media had used only a section of his statement in The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on Israel.

Its chief Khairy Jamaluddin said Anwar's allegations showed as if Umno's media had manipulated his statement.

He said the interview published in WSJ clearly showed Anwar supported the security of Israel.

"In the statement, he said he supported all efforts to protect Israel," he told reporters after chairing an Umno Youth Meeting at the Parit Umno office here.

The official website of Parti Keadilan Rakyat, Keadilan Daily reported that Anwar in his meeting with PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat had clarified that the issue became misunderstood when Umno's media used only a section of his statement published by WSJ.

Apart from that, Khairy said the government had clear policies and position that Malaysia would have no political or diplomatic relations with Israel.

"As a Member of Parliament, I am aware of the trade relations between Malaysia and Israel but it is between companies.

"I hope the public is aware of this that when we trade it does not mean we support Israel but out of the need of globalisation," he said.

On that, he said Umno Youth would be holding talks throughout the country to inform the public of Anwar's action.

"We will send Umno Youth speakers to each state to tell that supporting Anwar is like supporting Israel," he said.
