PUTRAJAYA -- Putrajaya member of parliament Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor apologised for the Tamil translation and spelling errors on Thaipusam banners placed around the constituency.
Tengku Adnan, who is also Barisan Nasional secretary-general, said his intention was genuine in respecting the Hindus of the area and in wanting to wish them on one of the main religious festivals celebrated in the country.
"My intention was genuine, in wanting to include Tamil in the banners as well. We did it in a rush and I was away at the time. So we asked BN and MIC members to help translate and write the Tamil parts," he said.
"It looks like they're not well versed in the language. I apologise for the mistake. Next time we'll ask those who are experts," he said after launching the students peaceful campus tour, here yesterday.
The errors led to the banners not making any sense and were taken down a day after they were put up when the Indian community within and from outside Putrajaya spotted the mistakes.
Tengku Adnan assured that such a mistake, which would surely hurt the feelings of a race, would not be repeated.
