PUTRAJAYA -- Several Parti Keadilan Insan Tanah Air (Kita) leaders from Kedah, Penang, Sabah, Johor and Selangor have urged party president Zaid Ibrahim to resign after admitting his failure to lead the party.
"He may quit and we can take over. We looked after the party well at the state level even though we are a small and new party. Do not ruin Kita just because of your failure," Kedah chairman Zamil Ibrahim told reporters at a news conference here on Friday.
Johor chairman Dr Mohd Zaid Mohd Yusof and Selangor chairman Azmi Othman were present.
Zaid had on Thursday announced on the party's website that an extraordinary general meeting would be held soon to dissolve Kita following reports of party members in Kedah and Penang openly attacking the opposition pact.
He also stated that he had failed in building Kita to become a "moderate and progressive" political party.
"The dissolution is unlikely to happen for eight states are against it. If it is dissolved through dirty means, I will make sure Kita is revived under the same symbol and status quo," said Zamil.
