SHAH ALAM - Beleaguered Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim seemed to have ignored the demands of Pro-Mahasiswa student group earlier today asking for a non-politician to replace wife of PM, Rosmah Mansor as new chancellor of privately owned Universiti Industri Selangor (UNISEL). Abdul Khalid was quoted as saying that the state government is considering an appropriate political leaders for the position but that a firm decision has yet to be made.
It had been reported that there were calls for Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail or former PKR deputy president Dr Syed Husin Ali be appointed to the position, which will be effective in February this year.
Rosmah who was appointed Unisel chancellor in February 2006, announced her withdrawal from the post at the university's convocation last November before her contract ends, in order to focus on her Permata programme.
Earlier, the president of the student group, Muhammad Nasir Abu Bakar, told a press conference this morning that they wanted an academician to be appointed chancellor of the state government-owned university.
They suggested Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dr Khoo Kay Kim for the post in view of his wide experience in the academic field and his contributions to nation-building.
Nasir said Unisel students rejected interference by any political party from both sides of the divide on the appointment and in the nation's educational development.
