muhyiddin_BN-changesKUALA LUMPUR – The Barisan Nasional leadership at all levels has been urged to undertake major changes and transformation so it can be accepted by the people.

Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said the country's political landscape since the March 2008 general election demands that the BN leadership accept changes in order for it to move forward.

Failing to undertake such changes will only cause the party to face problems in the next general electon, said Muhyiddin at the dinner organised by the Malaysian Council of Ex-Elected Representatives (Mubarak) here Saturday night.

"If we don't do these immediately.. . .then we will certainly face major problems as the next general election approaches, that can challenge the strength of (our) political power," he said, according to Bernama.

The dinner, which was also attended by Muhyiddin's wife, Puan Sri Norainee Abdul Rahman, was held in conjunction with the Mubarak general assembly.

Muhyiddin said the situation today differed in terms of managing the party and government because the people made evaluations and questioned the policies and actions of the government.

He said if the major transformation desired by the people could be successfully carried out, then the BN would be able to retain the support of the people in future.

He said the political challenges which emerged after the political tsunami that occurred in the last general election were most significant, especially with the disclosure of the latest information within or outside the country, especially among the young generation.

Muhyiddin said that as such, Mubarak, as a non-governmental organisation, could play a role in assisting the BN to face the current challenges.

He called on the Mubarak leadership at all levels to pool resources with the government in explaining the various concepts, policies and approaches of the government to the general public.
