Proton outruns chopper

KUALA LUMPUR – The feat is certainly worthy of crowing about.
Australian rally driver Chris Atkinson driving a Proton Satria Neo Super 2000 won the "Rally Car vs. Helicopter Race" held at the Sunshine Coast airport in Queensland, Australia, recently.

The race was very close on both occasions but Atkinson was able to cross the line a few metres ahead of the helicopter.
"It was a great way to start our event and I hope we can make it three wins in row, by winning the rally this weekend", said an elated Atkinson after the race.
Proton in a statement Friday said 80 entries comprising the best drivers from Asia, the Pacific and Australia will participate in the largest rally scheduled for the weekend.
The total competitive distance of 276 kilometres includes two stages of around 35 kilometres, among the longest in international rallying.
The event will start with a rally show and the 2.3 kilometre Coates Hire Rally Shootout at Caloundra on Friday evening, followed with forestry Special Stages around Imbil in the Mary Valley over the weekend.
It will also feature many activities including the local Australian Rally Championship and the Australian Classic Rally Competition, the statement added.
The cars and crew will also visit the towns of Kenilworth and Cooroy on Saturday. Sixteen gravel Special Stages will be run over Saturday and Sunday in the Imbil State Forest near Gympie, according to Bernama.
The rally, which is supported by the Sunshine Coast Regional Council, is expected to attract thousands of spectators from around the region,
The PROTON R3 Malaysia Rally Team is represented by ace rally drivers Alister McRae and Chris Atkinson.
The team has consistently achieved the top 10 positions while racing against more established Manufacturer Teams such as Peugeot, Skoda, Abarth, Subaru, and Mitsubishi.
Meanwhile, with three rounds of the APRC remaining, the PROTON R3 Malaysia Rally Team is currently ranked second in the manufacturers championship table, with Mitsubishi in the lead, and Subaru at third placing.
