KUALA LUMPUR - MCA president Ong Tee Keat said the party's central committee was unanimous in supporting his decision to sue Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd chief executive Tiong King Sing who claimed he had given RM10 million to Ong last year for party activities.

Ong was responding to his deputy, Dr Chua Soi Lek who had urged him not to drag the MCA into a legal battle in his "personal problem".

ong tee keat 5.jpgOng, who is also transport minister, said the decision was endorsed by the central committee members including Chua when they met on Aug 18 in Johor Baharu.

"Actually, that was a unanimous decision made after a fair bit of deliberation and amendments and the deputy president was also present as well," he told reporters after launching the Wanita MCA Women and Children Aid Bureau (WCAB) and Counselling Room at MCA Headquarters, here Sunday.

Truth will prevail

On a call by Tiong to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to check his account, Ong said: "He can say anything he likes, but I feel what is important is that justice and the truth will prevail and not based on the allegations made by an individual whose credibility had been disputed.

Meanwhile, commenting on the Wanita MCA Women and Children Aid Bureau and Counselling, Ong said the bureau would not merely provide assistance in terms of counselling but also guidance in handling cases of domestic violence.

He said women needed exposure in skills training to enable them to be self-reliant and improve their economic wellbeing.

Wanita MCA head Chew Mei Fun said the counselling service would be extended to the women throughout the country in the near future.

"Since the formation of the WCAB, we have churned out more than 100 counsellors and set up 17 counselling units at 17 MCA divisions in Selangor," she added. - Bernama
