Moving forward on 'four pillars'
Monday, 08 February 2010 19:32

PUTRAJAYA - Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has outlined a twin approach towards making the 'four pillars' of his administration -  the 1Malaysia concept, the Government Transformation Plan, the New Economic Model and the 10th Malaysia Plan -  yield results for all Malaysians.

1malaysiaThe first approach is creative and innovative thinking while the second is speed in making decisions and executing policies.

If government servants embrace them, the success of the four pillars is assured, he told staff of the Prime Minister’s Department at their first monthly gathering this year Monday.

The rakyat, the man benefactors

Najib said the Government is here to serve the people and “not big businesses and corporations."

He added that the rakyat must be the main benefactors of all programmes, policies and allocations introduced by the Government.

“I am confident that if we combine all efforts, 2010 will be a successful year for us.

"Let us all serve with extraordinary commitment and dedication, not only to deliver our promises to the people but to bring Malaysia’s name to greater heights,” he said.

Present at the assembly were Deputy PM Muhyiddin Yassin, Minister in the PM's Department Koh Tsu Koon and Chief Secretary to the Government Mohd Sidek Hassan.

Move forward as a big family

Emphasising on the first pillar in his agenda, which is the 1Malaysia concept, Najib reminded civil servants that it needed to be fully embraced and understood by all.

“The concept is a noble attempt by the Government to boost national unity, which is an essential element for stability.

"We need to move forward as a big family and stay strong and united even if there are hiccups and unforeseen events along the way.

“Sometimes, these bumps may be minor but a small ‘fire’ can eventually destroy all if it is not put off early.

"The (arson attacks) on churches and surau, and a pig’s head being thrown into mosque compounds, are serious matters which must be tackled together,” he said.

"I do not want the old way"

The prime minister said the process of value creation is important in the system so everyone  we can improve programmes and policies that are in place.

"I do not want the old way, more of the same kind of thinking.

“We need to create value without depending on science and technology, research and development or the private sector.

Najib said speed in making decisions and executing policies would have a high impact on the country’s competitiveness and productivity.

He added that other nations would see Malaysia as a “nation with high ability” if it was placed among the top 10 countries by the World Competitive report.

He said that was why the Government continued to look at how it could provide speedy service to the people without compromising efficiency, citing the issuance of passport by the Immigration Department in a matter of hours as one of its success stories. - Malaysian Mirror
