Cindy anak Wan, 23, had gone back to the longhouse drunk and quarrelled with the wife. His father-in-law was said to have interfered and there was believed to be some scuffle between the two.

Cindy was said to have fallen and fainted. Longhouse folks brought him to the Lubok Antu hospital. He was sent back to the longhouse after treatment. However, he died one hour later and there was a swell at the back of his head.

Lubok Antu OCPD DSP George Merejok confirmed that police have received a report yesterday morning and arrested a suspect in his 50s.

He said the suspect had been remanded and would be charged for murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

George said the victim had three children and was working in Bintulu before as an odd job worker before returning to his wife’s longhouse.

It was believed that the victim had been under a lot of pressure with no job and having three young children to feed.

George said there was no murder weapon and police had gone to the scene to further investigate the case. He said this is the first serious case in Lubok Antu this year.
