LONDON – Speculation is rife that Prince William, second-in-line to the British throne, may marry longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton sometime this year.
According to The Daily Telegraph, Prince William's prospective father-in-law, Michael Middleton, plans to take a step back from running his family business, which friends say is a clear signal that he wants to concentrate on preparations for a Royal wedding later this year.
An unnamed friend of Kate's father was quoted as saying: "We are all convinced an engagement announcement is imminent."
"Waity Katie" may finally marry her prince
Mr Middleton, who turned 60 last year, and his wife, Carole, launched Party Pieces, which provides children's party paraphernalia, in 1992. They are believed to have become millionaires through the company.
Long-standing relationship
Nicknamed "Waity Katie" by UK press for her long-standing relationship with the 27-year-old prince, Kate, who was 28 last month, is expected to hear wedding bells before the year is out.
A friend of Kate is confident that there is an "understanding" between the two graduates of St Andrew's University that a wedding is now inevitable. It is simply a matter of choosing the date.
The Daily Telegraph claims that February is a good month for announcing Royal engagements.
The news of the Prince of Wales's betrothal to Lady Diana Spencer was made public in February 1981 and they were married at St Paul's Cathedral five months later.
